Item description

Pocket Purifier - Handheld Germ-Eliminating Light

Kill germs and stay healthy!  Eliminate 99.99% of E-coli, staphylococcus, salmonella, germs that cause the flu and the common cold.  UV light will kill germs in as little as 10-15 seconds.  Compact size you can take with you everywhere.  No harmful chemicals are necessary, so great for toys, pacifiers, and food items.

  • Built in 4 watt germicidal ultraviolet light, deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens destroying their ability to multiply.
  • Powered by 4 ‘AA’ batteries for easy carrying and safe usage.
  • Suitable for purifying masks, kitchen utensils, telephone sets, nail clippers, scissors, baby toys, pacifiers, cribs, strollers and most everyday items.
  • The specially designed UV-Lid™ helps avoid any harm of ultraviolet light to eyes and skin and also enhances the germ-killing function.
How it Works

Pocket Purifier™ has a built-in UV-C bulb that when turned on and exposed to surface areas or items needing purified, will attack the germs and bacteria killing their DNA, and preventing them from reproducing and growing.

UV-C light has been tested for the past 60 years by governmental and private agencies and companies and the conclusion remains that there is simply nothing more effective for killing germs and bacteria, purifying the air we breath and the water we drink.

Using Pocket Purifier (PP)

  • To use the germicidal UV-C light for deactivating and killing germs, switch PP to “Purifier” and aim the UV-C light towards the area you wish to purify.
  • Quick Use - Hold PP 1/2” to 1” away from the surface of the item you are purifying for 10 to 15 seconds. This will work for 1” x 4” area.
  • Larger Area – Place PP in a small enclosed area (12” to 24”) with the object(s) to be purified and leave for 10 to 15 minutes. Use PP’s flip stand on the side of the unit to position it properly during this method of use.
  • Flashlight Mode - simply slide the On/Off switch up.

Why You Need One!

It’s no secret that colds and flu are becoming more common and there are a multitude of contributing factors.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Environmental Protection Agency are continually reinforcing the need for us to take extra precautions and measures to prevent sickness and exposure to harmful viruses by purifying, sanitizing and sterilizing our environment as much as possible.
  • Studies by the Environmental Protection Agency and other researchers have found that volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are common in the indoor environment and that their levels may be ten to thousands of times higher indoors than found in the outdoor air. There may be anywhere from 50 up to hundreds of individual VOCs in an indoor air sample.
  • Volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands. Examples include: paints and lacquers, paint strippers, cleaning supplies, pesticides, building materials and furnishings, office equipment such as copiers and printers, correction fluids and carbonless copy paper, graphics and craft materials including glues and adhesives, permanent markers, and photographic solutions.
  • Organic chemicals are widely used as ingredients in household products. Paints, varnishes, and wax all contain organic solvents, as do many cleaning, disinfecting, cosmetic, degreasing, and hobby products. Fuels are made up of organic chemicals. All of these products can release organic compounds while you are using them, and, to some degree, when they are stored.
  • EPA's Total Exposure Assessment Methodology (TEAM) studies found levels of about a dozen common organic pollutants to be 2 to 5 times higher inside homes than outside, regardless of whether the homes were located in rural or highly industrial areas. Additional TEAM studies indicate that while people are using products containing organic chemicals, they can expose themselves and others to very high pollutant levels, and elevated concentrations can persist in the air long after the activity is completed.

Learn About Germs

Germs are all around us and are changing everyday! Here are some facts and figures about the nasty nature of germs.
  • Desktops have almost 21,000 germs per square inch and phones more than 25,000 per square inch (compared with a mere 49 per square inch on toilet seats).
  • Highly contagious infectious particles can spray from a sneeze at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, landing at a distance of three feet from the offender and survive there for over 24 hours.*
  • Although the common cold is usually mild, with symptoms lasting one to two weeks, it is the leading cause of doctor visits and missed days from school and work.
  • Kissing is okay! The common cold viruses are not spread by contact such as kissing, but appear to be spread by large particles expelled at close range by coughs and sneezes, and by contaminated fingers that pass the virus to the nose and eye.
  • Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, first described influenza in 412 BC, while the first known flu-like epidemic occurred in 1580 AD.
  • According to the Center for Disease Control, 164 million school days are lost annually due to illness.
  • Influenza can strike entire populations who have inadequate immune protection, especially against a newly mutated virus. The U.S. Government now reports influenza deaths in the 1990's were 35-50,000 per year instead of the original estimates of 20,000.
  • Children have six to ten colds a year. Families with children in school can have as many as 12.
  • In the course of a year, people in the United States suffer from one billion colds, according to some estimates.
  • Women between the ages of 20 and 30 have more colds than men because of the exposure they receive from their children.
  • More than 200 different viruses are known to cause symptoms of the common cold.
  • One of the two methods of catching a cold virus is inhaling germs that are in the air. The other method is through contact with a person or surface contaminated by cold germs.
  • Colds and flu are definitely seasonal, with more colds in the colder weather – but there is no real agreement as to why colds are seasonal. Most textbooks state that there are more colds in cold weather because we tend to crowd indoors in poorly ventilated rooms.
* According to a recent University of Arizona study.

Replacing Pocket Purifier's Bulb

The unit contains a 4-Watt, T5 Bi-Pin germicidal UV-C bulb. Replacement bulbs are available here.

To replace bulb, gently remove the protective cover housing the bulb by holding the unit with one hand and pulling on the corner of the housing. This should cause the cover to pop off.
  • Using 2 fingers gently grasp one metal end of the bulb and twist until bulb’s connecting pins align with the slot and remove the bulb.
  • Place new bulb into slots and turn using 2 fingers grasping the bulb’s metal ends only and twist ¼ turn until bulb snaps into place.
  • NOTE: Only grasp bulb by metal end to avoid contact with bulb’s glass and reduction in UV effectiveness from oil on your skin.
  • Replace protective housing by snapping back into place over bulb.
CAUTION: Avoid exposure of eyes and skin to unshielded lamp.
WARNING: Bulb contains mercury. Manage in accordance with disposal laws. See www.lamprecycle.org or call 1-800-895-8842.
